Peter Obi has met with the United States Consul General in Lagos, Rick Swart, as part of efforts to strengthen ties and push for more credible elections ahead of 2027.
Sharing details of the meeting on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Obi said the discussion centered on improving Nigeria’s electoral process, with a focus on transparency, fairness, and creating space for all political parties especially those in opposition to operate freely.
According to him, both sides also explored opportunities to deepen trade and business relations between Nigeria and the United States.
Obi described the talks as productive and expressed optimism that future elections in Nigeria would be more credible and transparent.
He attended the meeting alongside Dr. Adefolaseye Adebomi Adebayo.
The engagement comes at a time when political activities and alignments are gradually building up ahead of the next general elections, with key figures positioning themselves and shaping conversations around electoral reforms.
