Nigerian comedian and Nollywood actor Okey Bakassi has debunked reports claiming that his marriage to his wife, Ezinne, has collapsed, describing the allegations as disrespectful and distressing to his family.
The veteran entertainer addressed the rumours in a video message after a report alleging that he and his wife had gone their separate ways circulated on social media. He maintained that the claims were false, reassuring his friends, family members and fans that their marriage remained intact.
According to reports by Vanguard and Premium Times on October 13, 2026, Bakassi explained that the controversy erupted while he was on a movie set. He expressed displeasure that someone had allegedly used his name and photographs of him and his wife to publish a story suggesting that their relationship had ended.
“While I was on a set today filming a new movie with my colleagues, someone was busy on social media disrespecting my family and me,” he said.
The comedian disclosed that the report triggered numerous calls from concerned friends, relatives and fans across different parts of the world, with some contacting both him and his wife to confirm whether the claims were true.
Setting the record straight, Bakassi declared that there was no separation between them.
“Please, let me say to my friends, family and fans that my wife and I are still together. God forbid that anything happens to us,” he stated.
He further emphasised the importance of his wife and children in his life, describing them as his greatest priorities.
The false report allegedly claimed that Ezinne had relocated to the United States to study nursing, while Bakassi remained in Nigeria, working and sending money to support her education and their children for about 15 years. It further alleged that she subsequently requested a divorce.
However, the actor dismissed the claims, specifically rejecting the allegations about his wife’s profession and residence. He clarified that she lives in Canada, not the United States, and is not a nurse as claimed in the publication.
Bakassi also criticised individuals who shared the report without first contacting him or members of his family to establish its authenticity. He urged anyone who encountered the publication to report the account responsible for circulating the claims on X, formerly Twitter.
The actor’s response comes shortly after he and Ezinne celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on September 1, 2026. The couple, who first met in Port Harcourt in 1988, have three children together.
Reflecting on their relationship over the years, Bakassi has previously acknowledged the role his wife played in his life and career.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the spread of unverified celebrity stories on social media, particularly allegations involving marriages and private family matters.
By publicly addressing the controversy, Bakassi has urged his supporters to disregard the divorce rumours, insisting that his family remains intact and in God’s hands.
