OSU, OSUN STATE — The 1976 set of Atakunmosa High School, Osu, in Osun State has marked its 50th anniversary with the donation of a ₦35 million Information and Communication Technology (ICT) hub to its alma mater, in a gesture aimed at improving digital learning and academic development.
The initiative, which includes the provision of 32 laptops and supporting infrastructure, was unveiled during a commemorative event attended by alumni members, school officials, and community stakeholders.
Members of the old students’ association said the project was conceived to bridge the digital divide in the school and equip students with modern technological skills needed in today’s education and job market.
They explained that the ICT hub would serve as a learning centre for students across different classes, offering access to computer-based learning tools, research materials, and digital literacy training.
School authorities expressed appreciation for the donation, describing it as a timely intervention that would significantly enhance teaching and learning outcomes. They noted that many public schools still struggle with limited access to ICT facilities, making such contributions highly impactful.
Alumni representatives said the project reflects their commitment to giving back to the institution that shaped their early academic and personal development, adding that education remains a key driver of national progress.
They further encouraged other graduating sets and private stakeholders to support public schools with similar interventions, particularly in areas such as technology, infrastructure, and student welfare.
Education stakeholders at the event highlighted the importance of ICT integration in modern education, noting that digital skills are now essential for students to compete globally and access emerging opportunities.
They also called on government authorities to strengthen partnerships with alumni associations and private donors in order to accelerate improvements in school infrastructure across the country.
Community leaders praised the initiative as a model for sustainable educational development, stating that such efforts help reduce pressure on public funding while directly addressing critical gaps in the education sector.
As the anniversary celebration concluded, participants expressed optimism that the ICT hub would leave a lasting legacy, empowering future generations of students at Atakunmosa High School with stronger digital capabilities and improved academic performance.
