ENUGU, Nigeria — The Obodoeze Media Project (OMP), representing its principal, Ocho Obodoeze Chukwuma, has condemned reported attacks on opposition parties in Enugu State and called for an impartial investigation into incidents involving members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a press statement issued on Monday, October 12, 2026, the organisation described reports of violence during political activities on Saturday, October 10, as a threat to public safety, democratic participation and peaceful coexistence.

OMP expressed sympathy with the NDC leadership and its members over the reported incidents, urging security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violence, identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the law.

The organisation also called on authorities to clarify conflicting accounts of the incident, particularly reports concerning a possible fatality.

OMP Seeks Clarity On Casualty Reports

OMP said reports had circulated alleging that the incident resulted in a death. However, it noted that the Enugu State Government had disputed the claim, while police reportedly confirmed that a man sustained a suspected gunshot injury.

The organisation urged the authorities to establish the facts and communicate their findings publicly.

It also called for appropriate medical care for the injured person, stressing that the investigation should proceed without compromising justice.

OMP maintained that any investigation must be thorough, transparent and impartial, regardless of the political affiliations of those involved.

The statement did not independently establish the circumstances of the reported shooting or resolve the conflicting accounts of the casualty figures.

Airport Restrictions Raise Questions

The organisation also expressed concern over reports that NDC members who gathered at Akanu Ibiam International Airport to welcome their party’s governorship candidate faced restrictions.

OMP acknowledged that airports require security arrangements and that visitors must comply with applicable regulations. However, it argued that the rules should be applied consistently and transparently to all political parties and groups.

The organisation questioned whether the restrictions imposed on the NDC were supported by clear regulations and whether comparable standards applied to other political organisations.

It urged the Federal Ministry of Aviation to initiate an independent and transparent inquiry, working with the relevant airport authorities, to establish what happened and determine the reasons for the restrictions.

According to OMP, public institutions must avoid actions that could create the perception that lawful political participation is allowed for one group but restricted for another because of political affiliation.

The organisation called for the inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the airport incident and assess whether officials applied the relevant rules fairly.

Calls For Impartiality And Accountability

OMP urged political parties, their supporters and relevant authorities to reject violence and respect democratic principles as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.

It stressed that political disagreements should not lead to intimidation or undermine citizens’ ability to participate peacefully in lawful political activities.

The organisation also emphasised that security agencies and public institutions have a responsibility to act within the law and treat citizens equally.

It called for accountability where wrongdoing is established, insisting that no individual or group should be exempt from the law because of political connections or affiliation.

Enugu Peace Must Be Protected

The statement concluded with an appeal for the protection of peace, democratic institutions and equal rights in Enugu State.

OMP said the state’s institutions and public resources should serve all residents without discrimination, regardless of their political choices.

The organisation reiterated that the rule of law, equality before the law and respect for human dignity must guide the response to the reported incidents.

As of the time of the statement, OMP was calling for the relevant authorities to establish the facts surrounding the reported violence and airport restrictions. The organisation’s allegations and demands for an inquiry do not, by themselves, establish that political discrimination occurred.

The outcome of investigations by the police, aviation authorities and other relevant agencies will be important in clarifying the events and determining whether any individual or institution breached the law.
