Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have commenced the sorting and counting of votes at Polling Unit 39, Ward 4, in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State.
The exercise began shortly after voting ended at the polling unit during Saturday’s governorship election.
INEC officials were seen sorting the ballot papers according to political parties and candidates before proceeding with the counting.
Party agents and other stakeholders were present to observe the process and monitor the announcement of the results.
The sorting and counting mark the next stage of the electoral process after voter accreditation and voting. Polling officials are expected to record the results before transmitting them in line with INEC’s procedures.
The Osun governorship election is being conducted across the state’s 30 local government areas, with heightened political interest and security arrangements.
The outcome of the election will determine who governs Osun State for the next four years.
