A wave of anger and grief has followed the tragic death of 35-year-old Yves Sakila, a Congolese national who died after being forcibly restrained by private security personnel in Dublin, Republic of Ireland.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, May 15, 2026, has drawn widespread condemnation after disturbing details emerged about the manner in which Sakila was subdued in public view. According to eyewitness accounts, he was accused of shoplifting before being confronted by a group of security operatives.
Witnesses say the situation escalated quickly as Sakila was wrestled to the ground by multiple men. Reports indicate that as many as eight individuals pinned him down, with one allegedly placing a knee on his neck while others held him in place. His clothing was reportedly pulled over his face during the struggle, and he was repeatedly struck while restrained.
