Paris Saint-Germain Face Injury Concern As Luis Enrique Uncertain Over Vitinha Ahead Of Bayern Semi-Final Clash

PARIS, FRANCE — Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has admitted uncertainty over the fitness of midfielder Vitinha ahead of a crucial UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich, as the French champions prepare for a decisive week in their European campaign.

The situation emerged on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, during a pre-match media briefing held at the Parc des Princes press conference room at approximately 1:00 p.m., where the Spanish coach addressed growing concerns over squad fitness and rotation management ahead of a congested fixture schedule.

Vitinha, who has been a key figure in PSG’s midfield structure this season, is currently sidelined with heel inflammation and will miss the club’s Ligue 1 fixture against FC Nantes on Wednesday. His absence has raised doubts over whether he will recover in time to feature in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich, scheduled for next Tuesday at the Parc des Princes.

Luis Enrique explained that the club will adopt a cautious approach in assessing injured and fatigued players, stressing that no rushed decisions will be made regarding player availability. He noted that the medical team is closely monitoring several players who are dealing with minor injuries and physical fatigue due to the intensity of the season.

Vitinha’s potential absence could force tactical adjustments in midfield, with Fabian Ruiz emerging as the most likely replacement option. Ruiz recently returned from a knee injury and made a brief 18-minute appearance in PSG’s 2–1 home defeat to Olympique Lyonnais last weekend. While the midfielder is still regaining full match sharpness, he remains a key candidate to slot into PSG’s central midfield trio alongside João Neves if needed.

That midfield combination played a significant role in PSG’s domestic and European success last season, contributing heavily to both Ligue 1 dominance and their Champions League triumph. However, fitness concerns now threaten to disrupt that balance at a critical stage of the campaign.

Luis Enrique also emphasized the importance of squad depth, stating that players returning from injury must gradually rebuild match fitness before being fully reintegrated into high-intensity fixtures. He reiterated that performance standards at the club remain high, regardless of age or experience, referencing his expectations for younger players such as Ibrahim Mbaye.

PSG’s immediate focus remains on their domestic league clash against Nantes, where victory would strengthen their position at the top of Ligue 1 and extend their lead over rivals RC Lens with only a few matches remaining in the season.

However, attention across the club is increasingly fixed on the upcoming Champions League semi-final, where the possible absence of Vitinha could significantly influence PSG’s tactical approach against Bayern Munich in what is expected to be a tightly contested first-leg encounter in Paris.
