Former governor of Imo State Chief Rochas Okorocha, has been reportedly arrested and released on bail by the Nigeria Police Force over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Diaspora Digital Media understand that Okorocha was arrested on Monday night at REIZ Continental Hotel in central Abuja and released after about an hour of interrogation.
The Force spokesman, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the arrest and subsequent release on bail to Channels Television.
He said the former governor had been directed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning as investigations into the allegations continue.
The arrest reportedly followed Okorocha’s failure to honour previous police invitations concerning the ongoing investigation.
He was initially invited to the Force Headquarters on September 2, but the meeting was rescheduled to September 8 following a request from his lawyers.
Okorocha is said to have failed to honour the rescheduled appointment, prompting the latest police action.
