PSG Eye Guela Doue as Ideal Right Back Reinforcement to Support Achraf Hakimi

Paris Saint-Germain have stepped up plans to strengthen their defensive unit ahead of the new season by identifying Strasbourg defender Guela Doue as one of their priority transfer targets. The reigning UEFA Champions League and Ligue 1 champions are eager to add quality depth at right back, with the Ivorian international emerging as the preferred option to provide competition and cover for Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi.

The French giants have long admired Doue’s consistency, versatility and tactical intelligence. After failing to recruit a specialist right back during the previous transfer window, PSG sporting advisor Luis Campos has renewed efforts to address one of the few remaining weaknesses in Luis Enrique’s squad.

Throughout last season, PSG were forced to improvise whenever Hakimi was unavailable through injury, suspension or rotation. Midfielders Warren Zaire Emery and Joao Neves occasionally filled the position, but the coaching staff remained determined to recruit a natural defender capable of maintaining the team’s high standards on both ends of the pitch.

According to reports from France, Guela Doue has now moved to the top of PSG’s shortlist after an impressive campaign with Strasbourg that showcased his maturity and defensive reliability.

The 23 year old joined Strasbourg from Rennes and quickly established himself as one of Ligue 1’s most dependable defenders. Under the guidance of his coaches, Doue developed into a complete modern full back, combining defensive discipline with attacking quality.

During the recently concluded league season, he registered two goals and seven assists in 34 appearances, statistics that underline his ability to contribute in the final third while remaining solid defensively. His performances were instrumental in Strasbourg’s competitive campaign and attracted interest from several elite European clubs.

What makes Doue particularly attractive to PSG is his tactical flexibility. Although naturally deployed as a right back, he is equally comfortable operating as a central defender in a back three or stepping into midfield when required. That versatility perfectly complements Luis Enrique’s fluid tactical system, where defenders are expected to adapt to multiple roles throughout a match.

PSG believe the addition of a player with such qualities would allow greater squad rotation without compromising performance levels, especially with another demanding domestic and European campaign approaching.

Doue’s growing reputation has also been strengthened by his performances on the international stage.

Representing Ivory Coast at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the defender played an important role in helping the Elephants qualify for the Round of 32. He started matches against Ecuador and Curacao before making another appearance against Germany, producing composed displays against high quality opposition.

His performances on football’s biggest stage reportedly attracted attention from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and several other European clubs monitoring emerging defensive talent.

With competition increasing, Strasbourg are understood to value the defender between €30 million and €35 million, reflecting both his age and long term potential. The French club remains under no immediate pressure to sell, as Doue remains under contract until June 2029.

Guela Doue comes from a football family that continues to make headlines across Europe. He is the elder brother of Paris Saint Germain attacking sensation Desire Doue, one of France’s brightest young talents. While Desire has captured attention with his creativity, flair and goals, Guela has built his reputation through consistency, discipline and defensive excellence.

The brothers were both developed through Rennes’ respected youth academy, widely regarded as one of France’s finest talent production centres. Although their careers have followed different paths, both have established themselves among the country’s most exciting footballers.

A potential move to Paris would reunite the siblings at club level for the first time in their professional careers, adding another fascinating storyline to PSG’s squad.

Despite the attraction of joining the European champions, convincing Guela Doue to accept a rotational role behind Achraf Hakimi may prove challenging. The defender has enjoyed regular first team football at Strasbourg and will carefully consider any proposal that could limit his playing opportunities.

Nevertheless, PSG remain confident that competing for major trophies in France and Europe, alongside working under Luis Enrique, could prove decisive in persuading the Ivorian international to make the move.

With preseason preparations approaching, the Parisian club are expected to accelerate negotiations in the coming weeks as they continue strengthening a squad determined to defend both the Ligue 1 title and the UEFA Champions League crown.

Should the transfer materialise, PSG would secure one of Ligue 1’s most promising defenders while adding valuable depth to a position considered essential for another successful campaign.
