Qatar Sports Investments, the ownership group behind Paris Saint-Germain, have completed the full acquisition of Belgian second-division club KAS Eupen, formally adding the Belgian side to their international football portfolio.
QSI confirmed on Thursday that the acquisition had been completed, making the investment group the full owner of Eupen after it took control of the club’s sporting operations in December 2025.
The completion of the deal marks the final stage of a process that began last year, when QSI agreed to take over the Belgian club. Although the Qatari investment group had already been involved in Eupen’s sporting operations for several months, the latest announcement formalises its full ownership.
In its statement, QSI said it had been working closely with Eupen to establish a strong foundation for the club’s long-term sporting and commercial development.
The investment group said this work has included strengthening the club’s sporting structure and first-team squad, developing pathways for young players and establishing new commercial partnerships.
KAS Eupen currently competes in Belgium’s Challenger Pro League, the country’s second tier. The club was relegated from the Belgian top flight in May 2024 after spending eight consecutive seasons in the first division.
Under the new ownership structure, QSI has appointed Pasquale Sensibile as sporting director, while Felice Mazzù is the head coach.
The club has been undergoing changes aimed at developing a younger squad and strengthening the connection between its academy and first team.
QSI said Eupen will continue to maintain its identity as the only professional football club from Belgium’s German-speaking Community. The owners also said the club would remain closely connected to its supporters, commercial partners and regional stakeholders.
The acquisition expands QSI’s growing presence in European football.
The investment group acquired a majority stake in Paris Saint-Germain in 2011 and has overseen a significant period of investment at the French club. QSI also owns a minority stake in Portuguese club Sporting Braga, acquired in 2022.
Eupen itself has also had a connection with Qatar for many years. The club came under the control of Qatar’s Aspire Zone Foundation in 2012 and was used as a pathway for young players associated with the organisation’s development programmes.
The latest takeover therefore represents a shift from that previous Qatari ownership arrangement to direct ownership by QSI.
The investment group said its immediate focus would remain on building the club’s sporting and commercial foundations rather than simply relying on its connection with PSG.
According to QSI, Eupen has already made progress in developing its first-team structure and youth pathway since the group assumed control of sporting operations.
The Belgian club has also secured new commercial partnerships, including bwin.tv as a premium partner and shirt sponsor, while Robey Sportswear has become its equipment supplier.
QSI’s growing football portfolio has attracted attention because of the different roles its clubs can play within the wider investment structure.
PSG operates at the highest level of European football, while Braga competes in Portugal’s top division. Eupen, meanwhile, is currently rebuilding in Belgium’s second tier.
For Eupen, the challenge now is to translate the additional investment and organisational changes into progress on the pitch.
The club has previously reached Belgium’s top division and remained there for eight seasons before relegation in 2024. Its return to the top flight is therefore likely to remain an important long-term sporting objective.
QSI said the latest phase of its ownership would focus on sustainable long-term growth while preserving Eupen’s connection with its local community.
The completion of the acquisition means QSI now has direct ownership of three football clubs or interests across France, Portugal and Belgium, with Paris Saint-Germain remaining the centrepiece of its football portfolio.
The Belgian club will continue its campaign in the Challenger Pro League under Mazzù, with QSI working alongside the management, players, staff and supporters as it seeks to develop Eupen into a stronger and more sustainable football organisation.
