Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the full implementation of the 2025 agreement between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for staff of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU).
The implementation will take effect from January 2027.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Harrison Madubueze, disclosed this in a statement, saying the approval was conveyed to Vice-Chancellor Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha through the Governing Council Chairman, Professor Peter Onwualu.
Omenugha, on behalf of the university’s management, Senate, staff and students, thanked Soludo for approving the agreement.
She described the governor as a dependable leader who had fulfilled his earlier assurances on the matter. She also expressed appreciation to the university’s labour union leaders.
According to the statement, full implementation of the FG-ASUU agreement at the state-owned university had remained unresolved under previous administrations.
The development aligns with Soludo’s education agenda, which seeks to restore teaching as a respected profession by ensuring that educators receive appropriate motivation and rewards.
The state government said the implementation forms part of its broader efforts to transform COOU into a university of global standing.
