Suspected suicide bomber killed in Abuja bomb explosion
DDM News

An explosion rocked Abuja on Monday, killing one person and injuring another, sparking fears of a possible suicide bombing.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the incident occurred near Mogadishu Barracks, a high-security military zone in the nation’s capital.
Eyewitnesses, including a military officer who declined to be named, claimed the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) hidden in a rubber can.
The deceased is believed to be the person who carried the explosive device, suggesting a possible suicide mission gone awry.
Another individual reportedly sustained injuries during the explosion and was taken to an undisclosed medical facility.
However, conflicting accounts have emerged from security agencies present at the scene.
Some military personnel suggested the explosion might have resulted from a mobile phone device and not an IED.
As of the time of filing this report, no official confirmation has been made on the identity of the deceased.
Security agents from the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) are currently investigating the scene.
The area has been cordoned off, and a detailed inventory of the incident is underway.
This latest incident comes amidst growing concerns over the resurgence of security threats in the Federal Capital Territory.
It also raises fears of a possible return to the dark days when bomb blasts were frequent in Abuja.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the explosion, leaving room for speculation over whether it was terrorism-related or an isolated incident.
Authorities have advised residents to remain calm but vigilant while investigations continue.
Emergency response teams are still assessing the scene for additional threats or materials that could indicate a broader plot.
Security analysts say the nature of the explosion, whether from a phone or an IED, could determine the scale of the threat.
The Nigerian government has not issued a formal statement as at press time.
Citizens have taken to social media to express concern and demand clarity over the true nature of the explosion.
Abuja residents are also calling for increased security surveillance in and around military installations.
The situation highlights persistent gaps in intelligence gathering and counter-terrorism operations.
Observers argue that whether accidental or deliberate, the incident points to ongoing vulnerabilities in national security.
