Thief Steals Terminally Ill Boy’s Seizure Medicine at Texas Fair

A Dallas mother, Kayla Price, has been left devastated after a thief allegedly stole her purse containing emergency seizure medication worth approximately $2,000 for her three-year-old son, Devin Cervantes, who is battling terminal brain cancer and receiving hospice care.

The incident occurred at the State Fair of Texas on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, when Price took her children out for a family visit. According to a report by FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth, the mother had placed her purse on the back of Devin’s wheelchair at around 8 p.m. before briefly turning away to attend to her older son.

When she turned back, the purse had disappeared.

Inside the missing bag were approximately $1,500 in cash and two doses of emergency seizure medication prescribed for Devin. Price said the medicine, administered through a nasal spray, helps stop his seizures and costs around $2,000 to replace.

Devin has undergone six rounds of chemotherapy for a terminal brain tumour and has recently been placed in hospice care. Despite his condition, his mother says he continues to find joy in everyday activities, including smiling, dancing and singing.

The loss of the medication became particularly frightening because Devin depends on it during seizure emergencies.

Price told FOX 4 that the possibility of her son experiencing a seizure without the necessary medicine was deeply distressing. She also said her insurance would not cover the immediate replacement, leaving her worried about how she would afford the prescription.

The situation became even more alarming on Friday morning, October 9, when Devin experienced another prolonged seizure, according to subsequent reporting.

Following the theft, Price filed a police report with the Dallas Police Department and made an emotional public appeal to the person responsible, asking them to return the stolen belongings.

“You don’t know the pain that you’re causing me or my kids,” she said in her plea, urging the person to return the purse and its contents.

Her story subsequently reached Chris Bailey, a Dallas resident who runs the community initiative Everybody Loves Everybody.

Moved by the family’s situation, Bailey contacted FOX 4 and offered to provide $2,000 to cover the cost of replacing Devin’s medication.

By October 13, NBC DFW reported that Bailey had sent the money to Price, who immediately went to the pharmacy and obtained the replacement medication.

The intervention provided some relief for a family already dealing with the emotional and financial pressures of a child’s terminal illness.

The incident has also drawn attention to the difficulties families can face when essential prescription medication is lost or stolen, particularly when insurance does not cover an emergency replacement.

While Bailey’s generosity helped address the immediate medication shortage, the circumstances surrounding the theft remain concerning. The available reports confirm that Price filed a police report and that Dallas police appealed for information, but I could not verify whether an arrest has since been made.

For Devin and his family, the donation brought an important measure of relief amid an already painful journey. What began as a family outing at the fair instead became a frightening experience, underscoring how the loss of a single bag can have serious consequences when it contains medication a child may urgently need.
