Three security operatives killed as gunmen attack NIPSS

Police authorities in Plateau State have said three security operatives were killed during an attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru.

The spokesman of the command, Alfred Alabo said the incident occurred in the wee hours of Tuesday.

“The Plateau State Police Command, on a very sad note, wishes to confirm the incident that occurred in the early hours of today, 16th June 2026, involving security personnel on duty at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru,” the statement reads.

“Regrettably, three security personnel lost their lives during the incident.”

The command said security reinforcements had been deployed, while patrols had been intensified around the area following an order by Bassey Ewah, the commissioner of police.

The police said investigations had commenced into the attack, assuring residents that normalcy had returned to the area.

“The situation is under control and normal activities have resumed,” it stated.

“Investigation is ongoing. The command urges members of the public to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses.”
