Timothée Chalamet, Selena Gomez to Star in Illumination’s ‘Not Alone’

Popular Hollywood stars Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez are set to headline the voice cast of Not Alone, an upcoming animated feature from Illumination and Universal Pictures.

The announcement was made during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, where the studio also confirmed that the film will hit cinemas on April 16, 2027. The project replaces a previously scheduled untitled Illumination release.

Marking his first feature-length animated role, Chalamet will voice Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic who prefers a quiet, solitary life. Gomez will portray Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist working on the world’s first plant-powered rocket.

According to the film’s synopsis, Joe and Fran are brought together to prepare for the maiden launch of the groundbreaking spacecraft. Despite an instant connection, both characters struggle with navigating romance, adding a layer of emotional depth to the story.

The plot takes a surprising turn when three mischievous alien fugitives Dunk, Welly, and Shirm seek refuge in Joe’s home while evading a persistent yet clumsy law enforcement officer named Zandro. Upon discovering Fran’s revolutionary rocket, the aliens see it as their chance to return home, setting off an intergalactic adventure filled with humor, chaos, and unexpected bonds.

Blending elements of comedy, romance, and science fiction, Not Alone is expected to deliver a heartwarming, family-friendly story with Illumination’s signature style.
