ABUJA, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu has praised Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for the completion of a seven-kilometre access road linking communities around the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, describing him as “Mr Project” who has not disappointed.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the inauguration of the road on Thursday, Tinubu said the project fulfilled a promise made to communities affected by the construction of the airport’s second runway. The road, which connects the airport to surrounding communities, was built to ease vehicular movement and address years of neglect faced by residents in the area.
The president commended Wike for his dedication to infrastructure development, noting that the completion of the project demonstrated the administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians through tangible projects. “You are Mr Project, and you have not disappointed,” Tinubu said, in a direct reference to Wike’s reputation for delivering infrastructure.
The access road is part of a broader effort to expand and modernise the nation’s capital. The project is expected to reduce travel time for commuters and improve access to the airport, which is one of Nigeria’s busiest aviation hubs. Residents of the affected communities had long complained about poor road networks, which hampered economic activities and access to essential services.
Wike, who has been at the centre of several infrastructure projects since his appointment as FCT minister, thanked the president for his support and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering on the administration’s promises to Abuja residents.
