The Nigerian Army has announced the elimination of a certain Alhaji Shaudo Alku, confirmed to be an ally to notorious terrorist, Bello Turji.

This was made known in a press release on the official X account of the Nigerian Army late on Sunday night.

The statement reads:

“In a significant blow to notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji, his key ally Alhaji Shaudo Alku has been confirmed killed in an airstrike.

“The Air Component of Operation Fasan Yama conducted the strike on 18 May 2025 targeting terrorists near Tunfa Primary School in Isa LGA, Sokoto State.

“Alku, invited from the Niger Republic for a meeting, died alongside several men and unconfirmed commanders.

“This development is part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist operations in the region. Further details will follow.”

Meanwhile, Diaspora Digital Media has gathered that Turji has been in hiding in the past couple of weeks after troops intensified efforts to kill, or capture him alive.

Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa: Vows to neutralize Turji

Turji and his reign of terror

In Nigeria’s troubled North-west, Bello Turji has become a name synonymous with terror and fear.

This notorious bandit leader has unleashed a reign of terror on innocent civilians, security forces, and rival gangs, leaving a trail of death and destruction in his wake.

Born in 1994 in Zamfara State, Turji’s rise to infamy began with a personal vendetta against the Yan Sakai, a pro-security vigilante group he claims killed his family members and stole their cattle.

This perceived injustice sparked a fire of “vengeance” in Turji, driving him to take up arms and wreak havoc on the region.

Turji’s terror campaign has been marked by brutal massacres, including the slaughter of nearly 200 people in Zamfara State in January 2022.

His gang has also attacked mosques, markets, and buses, killing scores of civilians and burning others alive.

The sheer scale of his atrocities has earned him the dubious title of Nigeria’s deadliest terror kingpin.

Despite his notoriety, Turji remains a complex figure, driven by a twisted sense of justice and a belief that the Fulani people are being subjected to genocide in Nigeria.

He has justified his actions as reprisals against attacks on Fulani bandits and civilians, and has even garnered a twisted form of admiration from some quarters, with a Hausa-language song hailing him as a “hero among heroes.”

However, Turji’s actions are nothing short of terrorism, and his continued reign of terror poses a significant threat to regional stability and security. His ability to evade capture and continue his campaign of violence has raised questions about the effectiveness of Nigeria’s security forces and their ability to protect civilians.

As Nigeria grapples with the challenges of banditry and terrorism, one thing is clear – Bello Turji must be brought to justice for his heinous crimes.

Only then can the people of North-west Nigeria begin to rebuild and heal from the trauma inflicted by this deadly terror kingpin.

The government must take decisive action to address the root causes of Turji’s rise to power and work towards a lasting solution to the region’s security challenges.

Until then, Turji will remain a shadow of fear, haunting the lives of innocent Nigerians.

Insecurity in the North West:

The North-west region of Nigeria is grappling with a complex web of security challenges, characterized by banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, communal clashes, and terrorist activities.

This crisis has been exacerbated by a combination of factors, including poverty, unemployment, and perceived marginalization of certain ethnic groups.

The region’s porous borders and vast ungoverned spaces have created an environment conducive to criminal activity, allowing armed groups to operate with relative impunity.

The rise of notorious figures like Bello Turji, who has become synonymous with terror and fear, is a symptom of this larger problem.

These individuals have exploited the region’s vulnerabilities, capitalizing on grievances and mobilizing followers to perpetuate violence and instability.
