Troops intercept suspected terrorists’ logistics suppliers, recover 7 firearms

Troops of Sector 7, Operation Enduring Peace, have intercepted six suspected terrorists’ logistics suppliers along the Samaru checkpoint in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, recovering seven firearms and arresting the suspects.

The suspects were intercepted during a stop-and-search operation at about 9:40 a.m. on Monday while travelling from Jos, Plateau State, to Niger State.

A statement by the Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, made available to newsmen in Jos, said the operation was part of the military’s ongoing offensive against criminal elements operating within the Joint Operations Area.

Oteh said the suspects were travelling in an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz car with registration number EDO GUE-722-LV when troops stopped and searched the vehicle.

According to him, the suspects allegedly confessed that they were travelling from Jos to Niger State.

Items recovered from the vehicle included three AK-47 rifles, four sub-machine guns and the Mercedes-Benz used for the operation.

The military also disclosed that one of the suspects attempted to escape during the operation but was immediately subdued.

The suspect sustained injuries but is in stable condition and cooperating with investigators.

Captain Oteh said the suspects and recovered exhibits are currently in military custody for further interrogation and intelligence gathering.

He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Enduring Peace to sustaining offensive operations aimed at disrupting terrorists’ logistics networks and denying criminal groups freedom of action within its area of responsibility.

The military urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies by providing timely information on suspicious movements and activities.
