Troops Kill Suspected Kidnapper, Recover AK-47 in Benue Operation

MAKURDI, Benue State — Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have killed a suspected kidnapper during a targeted operation in Benue State, recovering an AK-47 rifle and other items, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security and crack down on criminal elements in the region.

The military operation, which took place in the early hours of Friday, was aimed at flushing out suspected kidnappers and armed bandits operating in the state. According to military sources, the troops acted on intelligence reports indicating the presence of a kidnapping syndicate in the area. Upon arrival at the hideout, the suspects opened fire on the troops, leading to a fierce gun battle.

During the exchange, one of the suspected kidnappers was neutralised, while others managed to escape into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds. The troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and other items from the scene. The military has since intensified patrols and surveillance in the area to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent further criminal activities.

Operation WHIRL STROKE is a joint military operation established to tackle insecurity in Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, and parts of Plateau states. The operation has been instrumental in reducing cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, and communal clashes in the region, with troops conducting regular raids on criminal hideouts and dismantling illegal camps.
