Troops of the Nigerian military’s Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have overrun a Lakurawa terrorists’ enclave in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, crushing several fighters and recovering weapons and five motorcycles.
The operation was conducted on Thursday, October 15, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist hideouts and restore security across the North-West.
In a statement, the Theatre Command said troops of Sector 2 advanced through identified terrorist enclaves around Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest, where they made contact with the armed group.
During the ensuing firefight, the troops overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.
The military said troops pursued the fleeing fighters, neutralising some of them in the process.
A subsequent search of the area led to the destruction of the terrorists’ camps and associated life-support structures, while weapons and five motorcycles were recovered.
The Theatre Command said troops had maintained a strong operational presence in the area and continued clearance operations to deny terrorists freedom of movement and improve security in surrounding communities.
It described the operation as part of sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist enclaves, eliminate safe havens and restore lasting peace across the Joint Operations Area.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their courage, resilience and continued operational efforts.
It also urged residents to support security operations by providing timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
The statement was signed by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, on October 15, 2026.
