United States President Donald Trump has announced that an agreement has been reached for the disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, raising hopes of a possible breakthrough in efforts to end the prolonged conflict.
Trump said the agreement was brokered by his administration’s “Board of Peace”, describing it as a major step towards restoring stability in the Palestinian territory.
However, uncertainty surrounds the proposed deal, with Hamas insisting that it remains only a draft and cannot be implemented until Israel formally approves it.
A senior Hamas official said the movement was prepared to consider the arrangement only after Israel signs off on its terms, while U.S. officials acknowledged that the Israeli government remains sceptical that Hamas will fully surrender its weapons.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by international mediators to secure a lasting ceasefire, the release of hostages held in Gaza and the exchange of Palestinian prisoners.
If finalised, the agreement would mark a significant shift in the conflict, with Hamas expected to hand over its weapons as part of a broader political and security arrangement.
The proposal has yet to receive official approval from the Israeli government, and there has been no indication that implementation will begin immediately.
