US President Donald Trump has acknowledged that the war with Iran contributed to the Republican Party’s disappointing performance in the November 3, 2026, midterm elections.
Trump made the admission during a telephone interview with Fox News late Tuesday, following major Democratic victories across several key races.
“I think a part of it was Iran, but at the same time, people understood the importance of what I’ve done with Iran,” the president said.
His comments suggest that the conflict may have influenced voters’ decisions, as Democrats made significant gains in the elections and dealt Republicans a major political setback.
The midterm results have raised concerns for Trump’s administration, with Democrats making advances in closely contested races and strengthening their position in Congress.
Trump, however, maintained that voters understood the importance of his administration’s actions towards Iran, despite acknowledging that the war may have affected Republican candidates’ chances.
