Trump Says US, Israel Ready to Suspend Iran Strikes if Peace Deal Is Reached

Fresh hopes for easing tensions in the Middle East emerged on Saturday after United States President Donald Trump announced that Washington and Israel were prepared to suspend further military strikes against Iran if ongoing diplomatic efforts quickly produce a comprehensive peace agreement.

The announcement marks a potentially significant turning point in a conflict that has fuelled months of instability across the region, disrupted global energy markets and heightened fears of a wider regional war involving several countries.

Speaking through a statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump said discussions involving regional allies had produced what he described as the basic framework for a possible agreement aimed at ending the conflict. According to him, both the United States and Israel are willing to halt planned military operations provided negotiations move forward rapidly and all parties honour their commitments.

The American president stressed that diplomacy remains the preferred path if Iran demonstrates a genuine commitment to resolving the crisis peacefully.

According to Trump, the proposed framework includes efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz fully to international shipping, renewed negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme and an end to attacks by Iran backed armed groups operating across the Middle East.

He suggested that if meaningful progress is achieved within a short period, there would be no need for additional military action by either Washington or Tel Aviv.

The latest development follows months of escalating hostilities between Iran, Israel and the United States, with repeated exchanges of missile attacks, airstrikes and military operations raising fears of a prolonged regional conflict.

The crisis has affected several countries across the Middle East while disrupting commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy transit routes. Any prolonged disruption to shipping in the waterway carries significant implications for global oil prices and international trade because a substantial portion of the world’s crude oil exports passes through the narrow channel each day.

Trump indicated that regional leaders had played an important role in encouraging dialogue and preventing further escalation.

Although he expressed optimism about the emerging framework, he warned that military options remain available if negotiations collapse or if Iran fails to fulfil any future commitments.

He emphasised that the suspension of planned strikes should not be interpreted as a permanent end to military preparedness but rather as an opportunity to allow diplomacy to succeed.

The announcement has generated cautious optimism among international observers who have repeatedly urged all sides to prioritise negotiations over continued armed confrontation.

Diplomatic analysts believe that any reduction in hostilities could help stabilise the region after months of uncertainty that have affected not only Middle Eastern nations but also global financial markets and energy supplies.

However, despite Trump’s optimism, there has been no immediate confirmation from Iranian authorities that they have formally accepted the proposed framework.

Iranian officials have maintained that while they remain open to negotiations under certain conditions, they continue to monitor military developments closely and insist that the country’s security interests will not be compromised.

Israeli officials have also not publicly outlined the details of any agreement, although Trump stated that Israel supports the diplomatic initiative as long as it guarantees the country’s long term security and addresses concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities.

The conflict has attracted widespread international attention because of its potential impact on global security.

Several governments and international organisations have consistently called for restraint, warning that any expansion of the fighting could trigger broader instability across an already volatile region.

Energy markets have been particularly sensitive to developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. Investors closely monitor every announcement related to the conflict because any disruption to shipping through the strategic waterway can quickly influence global oil prices and affect economies far beyond the Middle East.

Political observers say the coming days could prove decisive.

If negotiations progress as expected, the region may witness one of its most significant diplomatic breakthroughs in recent months. On the other hand, any breakdown in talks could quickly revive military operations and deepen an already fragile security situation.

For now, Trump’s announcement represents the strongest indication yet that the United States and Israel are prepared to give diplomacy another opportunity before authorising further military action.

Whether that opportunity leads to a lasting agreement will largely depend on the willingness of all parties to move beyond confrontation and embrace meaningful negotiations.

As the international community watches closely, hopes remain that dialogue, rather than force, will ultimately shape the next chapter of one of the world’s most closely watched geopolitical crises.
