Trump says US still sharing intel with Ukraine, despite Russian attacks with no warnings

President Donald Trump has said the United States is still sharing intelligence with Ukraine.

Trump disclosed this while speaking to reporters on Tuesday, after Kyiv complained of Russian missile attacks without the usual advance warnings.

“We are helping them, and we are sharing intel,” Trump said. He added that Washington was working with both Kyiv and Moscow to end the war.

Asked whether Russia had violated the energy ceasefire he announced on Sunday, he did not answer directly. “I’ll let you know about that later,” he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian forces struck Kyiv with ballistic missiles on Tuesday, targeting a thermal power plant. The Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, said a separate strike on a high-rise apartment block killed two people.

“Once again, no advance warning from our partners,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram. He did not say why the warning was missing.

He added that Ukrainian intelligence showed Russia was preparing more ballistic missile launches. In his view, the attacks showed that Moscow was not observing the ceasefire. Neither Russia nor Ukraine had confirmed that the truce was in effect.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, also confirmed that US military intelligence sharing was continuing. He blamed the missing warning on the type of weapon used in the latest attack. According to the report, Russia struck six Ukrainian energy sites on Monday.

Why Ukraine needs US intelligence

Experts and officials say Ukraine relies heavily on American intelligence for early warning of incoming missiles. It also helps to identify Russian military targets.

A missile expert at the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies, Fabian Hoffmann, said Europe could not easily replace that support. He explained that Ukraine depends on the US-operated Space-Based Infrared System, which detects missile launches. According to him, only the United States can provide such capability.

Zelensky doubts diesel deal will cut US fuel prices

The row comes as Trump presses Zelensky to stop Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries. Washington recently eased sanctions on Russian diesel exports. Trump says this will lower fuel prices ahead of next month’s midterm elections.

However, Zelensky told NPR that the deal was unlikely to work. “I’m sure … because the volume is not enough,” he said. He added that it could give Russia more money to fund its war. In his view, the American war in Iran has done more to push up fuel prices. Zelensky said Ukraine had not hit Russian refineries since Trump announced the truce.

Ukraine seeks fresh talks

In his nightly video address on X, Zelensky said he had sent proposals to US officials for new meetings with envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in the coming days. “Ukraine is ready for meetings,” he said.

He said Ukraine backed the truce, provided Russia also kept it. He also urged Kyiv’s partners to pressure Moscow.

A Ukrainian delegation held talks in the United States last week. People familiar with the discussions said Witkoff and Kushner presented the diesel arrangement as part of efforts to bring Moscow back to peace talks.

A Kremlin spokesperson said contacts were ongoing but gave no details.

Sybiha also referred to the tense Oval Office meeting last year, when Trump told Zelensky that Ukraine “did not have the cards”. “In less than two years, we have gone from ‘having no cards’ to ‘not playing your cards’. That is an achievement,” he said.
