US President Donald Trump has threatened to stop Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier from selling its jets in the United States unless the company moves more of its production to the US.
“NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, accusing the company of treating America like a “piggybank.”
The threat comes amid an escalating trade war between the US and Canada, just hours before Ottawa imposed retaliatory tariffs on about $20bn worth of American goods.
Bombardier employs thousands of Americans and already operates a manufacturing facility in Kansas, alongside sites across several other US states.
The company said its American operations support tens of thousands of jobs and that it remains committed to investing in its US workforce, customers and communities.
It is unclear how the Trump administration would prevent Bombardier from selling its aircraft in the US.
Bombardier’s jets are manufactured in Canada, the US and Mexico and comply with the North American trade agreement between the three countries.
The threat has also drawn criticism from Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette, who described Bombardier as a major economic asset to the province.
The latest dispute follows the collapse of US-Canada trade talks, with both governments accusing each other of making unreasonable demands.
The escalating tariff battle is putting further strain on economic ties between the two North American neighbours.
