Trees and power lines knocked down by the storm.

Fierce storms have killed at least two people in the central-eastern United States, officials confirmed on Thursday April 3, 2025.

The National Weather Service (NWS), says the powerful system brought heavy rains, flash floods, and tornadoes, leaving widespread destruction in its wake.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported two fatalities in the western part of the state.

Residents scrambled for safety as strong winds and torrential rains battered communities.

Emergency responders are still assessing the full extent of the damage.

The storm damaged buildings, uprooted trees, and downed power lines across multiple states.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of devastation, with cars overturned and rooftops torn off homes.

The weather system stretched from Arkansas to Ohio, bringing relentless rainfall that triggered flash floods.

Meteorologists warned that these conditions could persist for several days, increasing the risk of further damage.

Officials urged residents in low-lying areas to take precautions against rising floodwaters.

NWS in Louisville also issued warnings of continued hazardous weather into Thursday night.

Forecasters predicted damaging winds and isolated tornadoes, advising residents to stay indoors and remain alert for emergency updates.

As at Thursday, nearly 400,000 customers were without electricity across the central-eastern United States, according to PowerOutage.us.

Utility companies have dispatched crews to restore power, but ongoing severe weather could delay repairs.

The NWS office in Little Rock, Arkansas, cautioned that dangerous weather conditions would likely continue.

Officials expect large hail, strong gusty winds, and additional tornadoes in the coming days.

In Lincoln, Illinois, the NWS warned of “unsettled weather” persisting into Friday.

Severe storms could bring more hail and damaging wind gusts, worsening the situation in already affected areas.

Emergency management officials have urged residents to stay informed and follow safety guidelines.

Authorities are working to provide aid to those impacted and to clear debris from affected communities.

With more storms expected, meteorologists are closely monitoring weather patterns.

Officials have also advised people in high-risk areas to prepare for possible evacuations and to stock up on essential supplies.
