The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has urged Nigerians to give President Bola Tinubu another four-year term to complete road construction projects initiated by his administration.

Umahi made the appeal on Tuesday in Bida Local Government Area of Niger State during the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction and dualisation of the 401-kilometre Lambata–Kontagora Highway, valued at ₦1.5 trillion.

He described the project as part of the Tinubu administration’s infrastructure development programme, saying another term would enable the President to complete ongoing road projects across the country.

According to Umahi, the Niger highway is the fifth legacy road project under the administration, citing its scale, reinforced concrete pavement and the participation of the Dangote Group through the Federal Government’s infrastructure tax-credit scheme.

“President Bola Tinubu needs another four years to complete the numerous road construction projects which he started in this tenure across the country.

The administration is committed to improving road infrastructure in all geopolitical zones,” the minister said.

He added that the administration’s infrastructure programme covered several states, with Niger State benefiting from significant road construction investments.

Umahi also said 162 kilometres of roads and 115 metres of bridges had been completed in the North-Central region.

The minister commended Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for his infrastructure projects, saying the governor had constructed more than 300 kilometres of roads, over five flyovers and an underpass.

The Special Adviser to the President of the Dangote Group, Mansir Ahmed, said the company was pleased to participate in the highway project through the infrastructure tax-credit scheme.

Ahmed described the road as a strategic economic corridor and said it would be built with concrete pavement rather than conventional asphalt.

He added that construction would begin at four locations to speed up delivery.

He said the completed highway would improve the movement of agricultural produce, commercial goods and industrial materials, while creating opportunities for businesses and young people.

The project is also expected to reduce travel delays and improve access to markets for farming communities along the route.

Governor Bago, who represented Tinubu at the ceremony, described the highway as a major intervention in a strategic transport corridor connecting communities and facilitating the movement of people and goods.

He pledged that Niger State would deliver the highest number of votes nationwide for Tinubu in the next election, citing the Federal Government’s infrastructure investments in the state.

Bago also thanked the President for approving major road projects expected to improve transportation and economic activities across Niger State.
