The United States has approved the sale of military helicopters to Iraq in a deal valued at $800 million.
The US State Department announced the approval on Monday, saying the principal contractor for the deal would be Bell-Textron, based in Fort Worth, Texas.
The approval comes as Washington continues to strengthen Iraq’s military capabilities and defence cooperation with Baghdad.
Reuters reports that the State Department did not provide further details on the number or type of helicopters covered by the approved sale.
The deal is subject to the applicable US arms transfer process.
