Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has dismissed Davido’s appeal urging him not to interfere in the August 15 Osun governorship election, saying the singer should direct his message to the people of Osun instead.
Uzodimma, who chairs the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council for the election, also criticised the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing it as a “woeful failure” and suggesting Davido should prepare to employ his uncle as a dancer after the election.
Davido had on Wednesday addressed supporters of the Accord Party in Osogbo, saying he had heard reports of alleged plans by Uzodimma to influence the poll. The Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star appealed for a peaceful election and urged that Osun residents be allowed to choose their next governor without interference.
Responding in a statement on Thursday through his Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, Uzodimma said the appeal was misdirected.
“It is rather pedestrian for Davido to direct such an appeal to the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum simply because his wife is from Imo State,” the statement said.
“Instead, his appeal should be directed to the people of Osun State, who are the ones that will ultimately decide the outcome of the election through their votes.”
The governor said he remained committed to a peaceful, free and credible election, insisting that the APC would continue to campaign for its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
He added that the party’s focus was on persuading Osun voters to support its candidate rather than engaging in acts capable of undermining the electoral process.
Uzodimma also took a swipe at Governor Adeleke’s administration, claiming it had failed to meet the expectations of the people of Osun and expressing confidence that the APC would reclaim the state in the August 15 governorship election.
