Venezuelan President, Maduro Says Only Putin and Xi Can End Escalating Israel-Iran Conflict

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, expressed his belief that the only world leaders capable of halting the growing conflict between Israel and Iran are Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The confrontation, which erupted following an assault on Israel on the night of June 13, has rapidly intensified and raised fears of broader regional instability.

Speaking during his weekly television program Con Maduro+, the Venezuelan leader emphasized that global stability now hinges on the intervention of strong, balanced leadership.

“I believe that only strong, dignified leaders who are committed to maintaining global equilibrium, such as Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, are capable of resolving the current crisis, brokering a ceasefire, facilitating the start of diplomatic negotiations, and ultimately achieving peace,” Maduro declared.

His remarks come amid rising international concern about the potential for the Israel-Iran conflict to spiral out of control.

“Iran, as a sovereign nation, has every right to defend itself.

“If Israel persists in bombing a noble and peaceful people like the Iranians, then Iran, in the name of self-defense, has the authority to implement whatever strategy is necessary to protect its rights and its population,” Maduro stated.

His comments align with Tehran’s own position, which frames its actions as a legitimate response to Israeli attacks.

Since the outbreak of hostilities on June 13, Iran and Israel have exchanged deadly strikes, targeting military sites, infrastructure, and in some cases, civilian areas.

The international community has warned of the potential for a much larger regional war if the violence continues unchecked.
