Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has dismissed reports of a strained relationship between him and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Umahi described Wike as a progressive politician and said both men remained part of the same political family.

He spoke in Abuja on Wednesday while reacting to reports of divisions within the All Progressives Congress and speculation about his relationship with the former Rivers State governor.

“We need Wike as Wike needs us. So, it’s one family,” Umahi said.

The minister said political differences between him and Wike had been exaggerated by their opponents, insisting that their relationship remained cordial.

He urged politicians to focus on national development instead of allowing political disagreements to create divisions among people with shared interests.

Wike remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party but has continued to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The FCT minister has also promoted his Rainbow Coalition as a political movement focused on advancing the interests of Rivers State beyond conventional party politics.

The development has attracted attention within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, with the Progressive Governors Forum saying it would not support alliances capable of undermining Tinubu’s re-election or the electoral prospects of APC candidates.

Despite the political differences surrounding various alliances ahead of the 2027 elections, Umahi maintained that his relationship with Wike should not be defined by the divisions being portrayed by their opponents.

He reiterated that both men belonged to the same political family and remained committed to national development.
