White House unveils its new tariff plan
DDM News

The United States government has announced a delay in the rollout of its new tariff measures targeting countries with large trade surpluses over the U.S.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the tariff plan, which had been scheduled to take effect on Friday, has now been shifted to August 7.
According to a senior official in the Trump administration, the delay is intended to give the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency ample time to make technical adjustments needed for the collection of the new duties.
The official also revealed that the countries affected by the tariffs are those with some of the highest trade deficits with the United States.
The White House, in an official statement, defended the new policy as necessary for safeguarding the American economy.
“President Trump is using tariffs as a necessary and powerful tool to put America First after many years of unsustainable trade deficits that threaten our economy and national security,” the statement declared.
The administration insists that these tariffs are not just economic tools but also instruments for restoring national strength and autonomy.
The announcement reflects Trump’s long-standing commitment to confronting trade imbalances through protective economic policies.
Since taking office, the former president has made reducing trade deficits a central element of his economic agenda.
This policy aligns with his “America First” doctrine, which prioritizes domestic job creation, manufacturing revival, and economic independence.
Critics of the move argue that the policy could provoke retaliation from trading partners and disrupt global supply chains.
Economists warn that the burden of tariffs could eventually be passed on to American consumers in the form of higher prices.
Supporters, however, view it as a long-overdue correction to unfair trade practices that have benefited foreign economies at the expense of U.S. industries.
The delay in implementation is being seen by observers as a tactical move to avoid immediate backlash while giving time for technical logistics to be finalized.
It also leaves room for last-minute negotiations between Washington and the affected countries before the new duties are enforced.
The updated tariff schedule is expected to impact a wide range of imports, from manufactured goods to agricultural products.
As the August 7 deadline approaches, attention will turn to how international markets and foreign governments react to what many see as a confrontational trade strategy.
Whether the move strengthens U.S. economic leverage or escalates trade tensions remains to be seen in the weeks ahead.
