DAMATURU, Yobe State — The Secretary to the Yobe State Government (SSG), Dr. Mohammed Goje, has declared that no local government area in the state is under the control of terrorists, highlighting improved security as a key achievement of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration since 2019.

Goje made the declaration on Thursday during a media briefing in Damaturu, where he provided an update on the state’s security situation and the government’s efforts to protect lives and property. He stated that the security forces, in collaboration with local communities, have made significant progress in dislodging terrorist elements from their hideouts and restoring normalcy to affected areas.

According to the SSG, the state government has invested heavily in security infrastructure, logistics, and support for the military and other security agencies. He noted that these investments have yielded tangible results, including the reduction of attacks, the return of displaced persons to their communities, and the resumption of economic activities in previously affected areas.

The declaration comes amid ongoing efforts by the federal and state governments to address the security challenges in the North-East, where Boko Haram and other terrorist groups have operated for over a decade. Yobe State, like other states in the region, has experienced attacks and displacement, but the government has been working to restore peace and stability.

Goje also commended the military, police, and other security agencies for their sacrifices and commitment to protecting the people of Yobe State. He urged residents to continue cooperating with security forces by providing timely information about suspicious activities and movements.

The SSG further noted that the improved security situation has allowed the state government to focus on development initiatives, including the construction of roads, schools, and healthcare facilities, as well as programmes to empower youth and women.

Governor Buni has consistently prioritised security since assuming office in 2019, working with the federal government and other stakeholders to address the root causes of insurgency and promote lasting peace in the state.

As the state continues to consolidate its security gains, the government has expressed optimism that with sustained efforts, Yobe State will eventually overcome the security challenges that have affected it for years. For now, the declaration that no LGA is under terrorist control represents a significant milestone in the state’s journey towards peace and stability.
