This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday in Umuahia by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.

Governor Otti expressed sadness over the development, describing the late police chief as a dedicated and committed officer who served the country with professionalism and diligence throughout his career.

He also prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his family, friends, colleagues and associates the fortitude to cope with the loss.

The governor made the disclosure at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, during his acceptance speech after emerging as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for a second term ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Following the announcement, attendees observed a minute’s silence in honour of the late AIG.

The death of Uzuegbu has generated widespread mourning within the police community and among those who worked closely with him during his years of service in the Nigeria Police Force.
