A communal clash between Fulani and Gwari residents in Gurfata village, FCT, has resulted in one death and 31 houses destroyed.
The violence started with a dispute between a Fulani man, Shaibu Adamu, and a Gwari farmer, Sa’adu, over Adamu’s attempt to pass through Sa’adu’s farmland.
The argument escalated into a physical altercation, which reignited ethnic tensions in the village.
One person, Dahiru Yakubu, a Gwari resident, died from injuries sustained during the attack by Adamu’s elder brother, while at least three others were injured.
31 houses belonging to the Fulani community were burned down by Gwari youths in a reprisal attack.
Troops of the Nigerian Army and joint security personnel were deployed to the area to halt the violence and restore calm.
Authorities have appealed for peace and urged both communities to exercise restraint, with ongoing efforts to mediate between the groups and prevent further escalation.
Normalcy has returned to the village, but tensions remain high.
