16 burnt to death in Ondo auto crash

Over 16 travellers were on Monday night burnt to death in car crash in Ore-Ondo highway, Ondo State.

The fatal crash occurred as a result of collision between a Toyota Hiace bus and a truck in Ajue community of the State.

According to eyewitness, the collision led to a fire that engulfed both vehicles, burning 16 passengers beyond recognition.

In addition to the fatalities, three individuals sustained serious injuries, while two others managed to escape unharmed.

The head-on collision between the bus and the truck, reportedly occurred due to over-speeding and wrongful overtaking.

The impact was so severe that it left little chance for the passengers to survive the ensuing inferno.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was quick to respond to the scene.

According to the State Sector Commander, Mr Ibitoye Samuel, the accident occurred at around 8pm, with rescue operations continuing until 11pm that night.

Commander Ibitoye expressed his deep concern over the incident, urging motorists to exercise caution and prioritize defensive driving techniques.

He stressed that over-speeding remains a significant contributor to road accidents in Nigeria.
