A Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court ordered 18-year-old Nwude Joseph to be remanded at a correctional facility.
The decision followed allegations he defiled a 15-year-old girl in the Ikorodu area.
Authorities charged Joseph after reports detailed the assault, prompting swift judicial action to address the severity of the case.
The incident underscores growing concerns over sexual violence against minors in Lagos communities.
Joseph was arraigned on a two-count charge of defilement and indecency.
During court proceedings, Chief Magistrate B.A. Sonuga declined the suspect’s plea, ordering custody until legal advice is received.
Meanwhile, prosecutor Aminu Isaac stated the incident occurred January 17 at Gibson Lesson Centre, Agric, Owutu, Ikorodu.
Furthermore, Isaac alleged Joseph had non-consensual carnal knowledge and indecently touched her breasts and buttocks.
Consequently, authorities charged Joseph under Lagos State 2015 Criminal Law Sections 137 and 135(1).
Section 137 prescribes a penalty of life imprisonment for offenders convicted of defilement.
The court adjourned the case to April 10, ordering the defendant’s continued to be remanded.
Meanwhile, authorities await formal legal guidance from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions to proceed.
This pause ensures due process aligns with judicial protocols before resuming proceedings. Further developments are expected as investigations continue.
