Tragedy struck in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on Monday evening when a bomb explosion claimed the lives of two people and left four others injured.
The incident reportedly occurred after six boys unknowingly brought a dangerous device into the town, mistaking it for scrap metal. As they moved toward Ajari village, the device detonated, causing the deadly blast.
The injured victims were rushed to General Hospital Konduga for treatment, though authorities are yet to confirm the attack officially.
In a related incident earlier on Monday, the Borno State Police Command recovered an unexploded ordnance (UXO) in a farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area.
Police spokesman Nahum Daso revealed that the discovery was made after a farmer, Babagana Kachalla, reported spotting a suspicious object on his land.
Acting on the directive of Police Commissioner Naziru Abdulmajid, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team identified the object as a 2.2-meter-long cluster bomb unit (CBU).
Fortunately, no casualties were reported during the recovery operation.
To prevent similar tragedies, the police organized a safety training session for residents, focusing on handling explosive hazards.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious items or activities to the nearest police station to ensure the safety of their communities.
