2 Police, 3 bandits die in Imo gun battle

The operatives of the Imo Police Command killed three kidnapping syndicates in a gun battle in Imo state.

Two gallant police men were injured in the process but they gave in later on.

This was contained in a press release by the command spokesperson, Henry Okoye on the 24th of December 2024.

Okoye noted that on the 19th of December 2024, some operatives of the Anti-kidnapping unit engaged in a gun battle at Orogwe Owerri West LGA, Imo state.

Three suspects were killed and two others arrested. The gang were involved in the abduction of one Osuji Caleb Chimereze on the 12th of November 2024.during which a Mercedes Benz and other valuables were stolen.

“During the confrontation, the operatives recovered six AK-47 rifles, a locally made gun, two vehicles, a Mercedes Benz ML 350 with the reg no RRT 469 FF and a Hijet shuttle bus with reg no JRX 42 XA.

“The suspects had used those vehicles in their criminal activities including kidnapping of other victims”, the statement read.

He said in the light of the above ,the Imo State Police command is intensifying efforts in synergy with other security agencies to ensure a peaceful yuletide season.

The command urged the general public to report any suspicious movement and criminal activity to the nearest police station.
