2016 Budget Will Not Elapse On March 31 But May 5 ― Senate‎

Senate on Monday stated that the 2016 budget will not end by March 31, 2017 as speculated but May 5, 2017.

Senate had on March 23 passed the 2016 budget, with an unprecedented reduction in the budget’s total.‎

‎However, ‎The Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Danjuma Goje while speaking on when 2016 appropriated budget will elapse said that by the provision of clause 11 of 2016 appropriation act the budget will run for 12 months.

In his words,” the budget will last till May 5, 2017, by the provision of clause 11 of the 2016 appropriation Act accented by‎ the President Muhammadu Buhari this budget will run for 12 months.

Goje also added that any attempt to mop up funds in 2016 budget by Ministries, Departments and Agencies will be violation of the Appropriation Act.

He said the clarification is necessary because of the anxiety over expiration of 2016 budget.

“The clarification became necessary in view of anxiety over expiration of 2016 budget. It will expire on May 5 not March 31,”he said.
