Communities of the Anambra South senatorial zone have sent a note of warning to those they referred to as political wild card aspirants from the area, to shelve their ambition now until 2022.
In their respective remarks during the special reception organized for Gov Willie Obiano by the Federation of Old Nnewi Division (FOND)comprising three local governments of Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo, Chiefs Maja Umeh and Jude Emechetta noted that it was only fair for the governor to be allowed the eight years tenure allotted to Anambra North Senatorial District.
They observed that the ceremony has positive political implications for people of the Anambra South Senatorial zone as partners in progress with the governor and his north zone.
They noted that today’s public endorsement was to signpost the collective wish and mindset of the zone, hence circumvent and checkmate all future ambitious wildcard governorship aspiration from anyone from within the South zone.
Gov Obiano (Akpokuedike Global, Agunechemba) was conferred with the distinguished chieftaincy title of “Dikeora”(meaning the valiant one) by the traditional rulers of the 15 communities in the three council areas.
The well-attended colourful ceremony had key stakeholders and representatives from the communities in the region in attendance, including former governor Dame Virgy Etiaba.
They used the occasion to endorse the governor for a second term reelection bid into office by the people of the state.
The Governor in his remarks said that despite the very austere times, his administration has kept faith with its social contract with Ndi Anambra in availing them rich dividends of democracy.
He commended the people of the division for their support which he acknowledged, has been instrumental to the successes already recorded by his administration across various spheres of the economy.
He also expressed deep appreciation for the title conferred on him, and assured that his administration will not disappoint them but would continue to fulfill its promises as the state’s resources improve.
Chairman on the occasion, Chief Gabriel Chukwuma (Gabros) noted that the area is blessed with great sons and daughters whose contributions towards the growth of the state remains immeasurable.
He however regretted that it was not until the incumbent administration came on board that the area started receiving government attention. He therefore urged Gov Obiano to redouble his efforts at ensuring the development of the area.
For her part, the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rita Maduagwu said the Chieftaincy title and the endorsement of the Governor by the people attests to their acceptance of his transformational strides.
A former Governor of the state, Dame Virgy Etiaba who is from Nnewi, pointed out that the uncommon achievements of Gov Obiano in the present economic crunch have distinguished him from his counterparts as a visionary leader.
She praised that the focus and vision he has brought into governance of the state has seen Anambra fast taking its rightful place in the country.
The Chairman of the Federation, Chief Jude Okolo explained that they endorsed the governor because of his outstanding performance within the two years and eight months his administration had lasted.
