2019 Presidency: Ohanaeze Leaders, Youths At War Over Buhari

With more than two years to the 2019 presidential election, fresh crisis has hit the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo over ‎support for President Muhammadu Buhari.

It was gathered that the parent body of Ohanaeze and the youth council were sharply divided as the issue of 2019 election was tabled during the organization’s last National Executive Committee meeting held in Enugu recently.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Ohanaeze Youth Council Worldwide, Engr. Obinna Adibe, while giving insight into the crisis, said it was misnoma for the Ohanaeze leadership to  wage a ceaseless war against President Buhari.

“The tenure of the current Ohanaaeze leadership expires in two months time, and we feel this is not the right time to start talking about 2019 election.

“Already they have been working hard to see that even the person that would succeed them continues with the anti-Buhari posture.

“We in the Ohanaeze Youth Council believe that this is not right considering that Buhari is already giving Ndigbo a sense of belonging.

“We also know that the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, who is currently building a befitting secretariat for Ohanaeze is a member of the All Progressives Congress, Buhari’s political platform.

“So, we have decided to use this medium and call them to order because they have started with another step that would jeopardize the interest of Ndigbo”, he stated.

Adibe further accused the Ohanaeze leadership of abandoning former first lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan to her fate.

He declared that: “this is a further proof that these are fair-weather friends, and are not to be trusted.

“We, therefore, urge other Igbo leaders to wade into this dangerous step by the Ohanaeze leadership to avoid actions that Ndigbo would heavily regret in 2019.

“Ndigbo should look before they leap; the Ohanaeze leadership should stop taking hasty actions that would be counter-productive.”
