2020/2021 NNL: Ekiti United FC unveil new jerseys
Ekiti United, the Ekiti state-owned football club, on Friday in Ado-Ekiti unveiled the team’s new set of jerseys ahead of the 2020/2021 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium and attended by the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Michael Awopetu.
NAN reports that the event was part of efforts to exhibit the team’s preparedness for the NNL.
Awopetu acknowledged the various efforts of the Gov. Kayode Fayemi-led administration towards boosting the morale of the players in particular and his commitment to develop sports activities in the state.
“There has been a regular payment of players’ salaries, provision of a more conducive, accommodation and acquisition of brand new sports kits, among others.
“All the efforts are some of the ways through which the state government has shown its commitment to the cause of ensuring promotion for Ekiti United FC at the end of the 2020/2021 NNL season,” he said.
The commissioner however disclosed that efforts are presently geared towards privatising the state-owned team with a view to lessening the financial burden on government.
He said this would also enhance the club’s capital base and put in place a brighter future for players of the team and other sports activities.
Awopetu urged the players and coaches to reciprocate the kind gesture by coming out with impressive results in their home and away matches.
NAN reports that each of the team’s players got four pairs of jersey, comprising the home and away jerseys, as well as the training and traveling jerseys.
The players later wore at the event the branded jerseys, which were in different colorist and sizes, to the admiration of spectators and fans who came to catch a glimpse of the outfit.
The club captain, Babatunde Bello, on behalf of his teammates promised total commitment and dedication.
“I urge every sports-loving Ekiti indigene and resident at home and in the diaspora to keep praying and supporting the team,” he said. (NAN)
