2023: Why South East must produce Nigeria’s President —Uwazurike

Former President of Aka-Ikenga, a pan Igbo socio-cultural organization, Chief Goddy Uwazurike, has joined other notable leaders in the South East to push for Igbo Presidency in 2023.

Uwazurike while speaking during a video conference organised by Governance Index said other regions in Nigeria have produced a President since the return of democracy in 1999, only Igbo has not produced a President.

The former President of Igbo socio-cultural group recalled how the Minister of Science and Technology, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu stepped aside for Chief Olu Falae in 1999 in order for Yoruba to produce President.

He said, “First we must choose a candidate who is really a candidate, I have never tired of mentioning names, let me tell you clearly, if you don’t belong to the major political parties and you want to be President of Nigeria, forget about it.

“It is only a party that has national spread that can make a president, what do I mean by level playing ground, what I mean is that whatever goes round must come around.

“In 1999 what did we did we settle for Chief Olu Falae who was defeated by Ogbonnaya Onu in the primary and Obasanjo who was unable to win his own state?

“In 2007 we settled for two Fulani men, North West had its Chance two times, South West had its Chance and we are saying the South East must have their chance and that is my submission, which I will stand by any day.”
