The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has faulted the zoning decisions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying both ruling parties care more about power than Nigerians.
Speaking on The Morning Brief programme on Channels Television, ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi said zoning discussions two years before the 2027 polls expose a “selfish political elite.”
“Why are we so preoccupied with zoning when people are hungry and insecure?” Abdullahi asked.
PDP, APC Already Share 2027
It could be recalled that Diaspora Digital Media on Monday, August 25, reported that the PDP zoned its presidential ticket to the South and retained its national chairmanship in the North.
Earlier in May, 22 APC governors endorsed President Bola Tinubu as the ruling party’s sole candidate for 2027.
Both parties defended their decisions, citing Nigeria’s “unwritten eight-year rotation rule” between North and South.
ADC Pushes Back
Abdullahi, however, insisted the move was premature and political.
“They are playing a game. Nigerians can see right through it,” he said.
“For PDP to take that decision this early, there is a script, and we know it.”
The ADC coalition, which includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, and former minister Rotimi Amaechi, said all aspirants have “equal chances.”
Abdullahi added:
“If this coalition was put together for Atiku alone, why would he need to announce he’s running? We also have Obi, Amaechi, and others interested. Nothing is decided.”
‘Only Two Parties Left’
The spokesman dismissed APC and PDP zoning politics as a distraction.
“Today, there are two parties in Nigeria: APC, the ruling party, and ADC, the real opposition,” he said.
“We are focused on building structures at the grassroots. Zoning is not our priority.”
The ADC stressed it will announce its zoning decision “at the right time.”
