2027: ADC Knocks PDP Over Moves to Woo Obi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has ridiculed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over reported moves to lure former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi back into its fold, describing it as proof of the PDP’s political decline.
ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said it was “laughable” that the once-dominant PDP was now “begging for candidates all over the place.”
“If the PDP is truly wooing Peter Obi, that tells you how low the party has degenerated,” Abdullahi said on Thursday.
“This is the same party that many Nigerians once desperately sought to get its ticket.
Now they are begging for candidates. Why would we be threatened by that?”
Obi, a key figure in the ADC-led opposition coalition, has been the subject of renewed political interest following recent remarks by PDP leaders urging his return.
Among those making overtures are former Information Minister, Prof Jerry Gana, and PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed, who described Obi as the “de facto leader of the opposition.”
Abdullahi, however, dismissed the possibility of Obi switching sides, insisting the former Anambra governor was aware of the PDP’s “destructive internal dynamics.”
“All I know is that Peter Obi is still part of the coalition. He has not told us he’s leaving. Can anybody take the risk with PDP now, knowing what we know?” he asked.
Arewa Forum Backs Jonathan, Scoffs at Obi’s One-Term Pledge
In a related development, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has thrown its weight behind the potential return of former President Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as a more attractive candidate than Obi.
ACF Publicity Secretary, Prof Tukur Muhammad-Baba, in an interview on Arise TV, dismissed Obi’s reported one-term pledge as “a clear act of desperation.”
“On the surface, Goodluck Jonathan appears attractive,” Muhammad-Baba said.
“Since 2015, he has gained positives from peacefully conceding defeat to earning international recognition.
But it’s still a long way to 2027, and he will need to do more to sell himself.”
Muhammad-Baba warned that the 2027 election would be a tough sell for any politician, given Nigeria’s economic hardship.
