2027: ADC Leaders Mull Plan B, Pursue ADA Registration

Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are taking no chances ahead of the 2027 elections.
Faced with growing legal threats and internal opposition, they are now pushing for the registration of a backup political platform the Advanced Democratic Alliance (ADA).
This move follows threats from within the party. A faction loyal to former ADC presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, has vowed to challenge the takeover of the party by a coalition of political heavyweights.
The coalition includes aggrieved members of the APC, PDP, and other parties hoping to form a united opposition against President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
To avoid disruptions, ADC leaders have chosen to pursue ADA’s registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Chief Akin Rickets currently leads the ADA as its interim chairman. The party operates from its office at UAC Complex, Samuel Ademulegun Street, in Abuja’s Central Business District.
Interestingly, ADA is already listed as No. 109 among political associations applying for registration. Another group, the Advanced Democratic Alliance, appears next on the list as No. 110.
Despite the similarity in acronyms, coalition leader Umar Ardo dismissed concerns.
He confirmed that the ADC coalition applied first, saying, “We’re there before them.”
But the legal storm is far from over.
Three disgruntled ADC members Adeyemi Emmanuel, Ayodeji Victor Tolu, and Haruna Ismaila have filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Abuja. They want the court to sack Senator David Mark as interim leader.
They argue the coalition violated a prior court ruling in its leadership handover.
Despite these hurdles, ADC’s coalition insists they met all legal conditions.
Both Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, who serve as interim national chairman and secretary respectively, remain confident.
Backed by a majority of the party’s structure, state chairmen threw their weight behind the coalition on July 11.
After a meeting in Abuja, Kingsley Ogga, chair of the ADC Forum of State Chairmen, declared full support for Mark and his team.
Still, tensions remain. Political watchers say the APC might support legal distractions to derail the ADC-led opposition before 2027.
Political analyst Jideofor Adibe warned that legal battles could weaken the momentum of the anti-Tinubu coalition.
But ADC leaders appear determined. With the ADA route on standby, the coalition wants to stay ahead of court challenges and internal sabotage.
