A former senator and vocal opposition figure, Dino Melaye, has declared that the upcoming 2027 general elections will not be a contest between political parties, but a direct showdown between Nigerians and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Melaye made this statement on Friday, August 1, during an appearance on Channels Television’s flagship political programme, Politics Today.
The former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kogi State used the platform to paint a grim picture of the current administration’s performance.
“This election in 2027 will be between Nigerians and the APC. It’s not going to be PDP vs APC. It’s going to be the people vs the ruling party,” Melaye stated boldly.
He accused the ruling party of plunging the nation into hardship, insecurity, and unprecedented economic decline.
According to Melaye, the APC government has failed to deliver on promises made in the past and is now facing growing resentment from citizens who feel betrayed.
Melaye, known for his firebrand style and populist tone, also criticised the Tinubu-led administration for what he described as a “lack of empathy” toward the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.
He claimed that citizens are groaning under the weight of high inflation, insecurity, and joblessness.
Furthermore, he said that Nigerians will no longer be swayed by propaganda or ethnic politics.
Instead, he insisted they are ready to vote based on truth and performance.
Melaye’s remarks come amid mounting discontent over the soaring cost of living, food inflation, and rising poverty.
Civil society groups and opposition voices have increasingly called for electoral reforms and government accountability.
The 2027 election cycle is already generating intense interest, with many analysts expecting it to be a decisive referendum on the APC’s years in power since 2015.
Melaye’s comments have since gone viral across social media platforms, with many Nigerians echoing his sentiments.
