2027: I don’t want to be Atiku’s running mate – Diri

Mr Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State on Wednesday said that he is not interested in being a running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election.

This was disclosed in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah.

Though, the rebuttal is coming after a group under the auspices of Diri Angels called on Atiku to consider the Bayelsa State governor as his Vice-Presidential candidate in 2027.

The group had in a statement signed on Tuesday by its Secretary, John Ondowari, said there was no doubt that Atiku would still emerge as the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2027, and the only way to achieve his ambition to unseat President Bola Tinubu is to adopt governor Diri as his running mate in 2027

However, while dismissing DA’s suggestion, Alabrah, said, “Diri described the suggestion as a Greek gift from political jobbers and that it should be completely disregarded.”

According to him, the aim of the fake group was to cause disaffection in some quarters and the plot had failed.

Diri said God had always guided him on his political journey and he was not swayed by any advocacy that was inconsistent with his godly and political principles.

He urged Bayelsans not to worry about the antics of political buccaneers whose intention was to cause confusion in an attempt to distract him.
