President Bola Tinubu has indicated that he may not visit every state and local government area during his 2027 re-election campaign, citing the need to remain focused on governance.
Tinubu made this known on Wednesday during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.
The President said he had been advised not to allow the demands of campaigning to distract him from running the country, adding that Nigeria required his attention more than ever.
“You have warned me and asked me not to allow the rigour of the campaign to distract me from governance. I hear you. I am in full agreement with your decision,” he said.
Tinubu told the campaign council, led by Senator Abdulaziz Yari, that his official responsibilities would prevent him from accompanying members to every campaign stop.
“Nigeria needs more attention now than ever before. The responsibility of this office does not pause,” he said.
He, however, promised to make time to address Nigerians directly while the council coordinates campaign activities across the states and local government areas.
“However, I will still make time to speak directly with Nigerians, even as you lead the campaign in the states and local government areas. So you will excuse me from going everywhere with you,” the President added.
Tinubu described the inauguration as more than a campaign activity, saying it represented a renewed commitment to Nigerians and the responsibilities entrusted to the ruling party.
“We have not gathered merely to inaugurate a council. We have gathered to renew a covenant. A covenant with Nigerian people and the historic responsibility they have entrusted to us as Nigeria’s governing party,” he said.
He charged the council to communicate his administration’s vision, record and agenda to voters nationwide as the party prepares for the 2027 presidential election.
“This council will carry our vision, our records and our agenda to every Nigerian, and it will carry them to victory every ward of this country,” Tinubu said.
